This is a great way to get a website if you have low cost in mind and still want to create an impressive online presence for your small business or personal affairs. These are high quality, pre-designed, and all inclusive packages. We can add your content, contact information, and logo design which can also be fully customized for you.
EXPLANATION #1:
Starting at $599 means that's rock bottom. "high quality, pre-designed" means your start up web design package is a canned look cookie cutter design. A hidden area of cost is "and logo design which can also be fully customized for you.". The Custom Logo for this example offer starts at $399, so your cookie cutter site already costs you one thousand dollars - no optimization.
EXAMPLE #2:
- Logo Design, Branding, and Ad Design - Starting at $299
A good logo and branding can clearly deliver a statement to your potential customer, as well as connect with them on an emotional level, confirming your credibility while motivating your potential customers to buy.
EXPLANATION #2:
A good logo and branding. What IS branding? Branding is a component of advertising copywriting and means building a brand message from the ground up. It means writing a positioning statement about what makes you special. The positioning statement must be written by you, the business owner, defining what you are all about and has two defining characteristics - the special audience or market you're trying to reach, and the special product or service quality your company represents. Branding also involves working on your copywriting using a copy platform - which is sort of like what television series' use and call a "bible" (soap operas, comedies, Star Trek, etc.) to keep their stories straight from episode to episode). Copy platforms include: The rules and regulations of 'Do's and Don't's', Key Features, your Positioning Statement, your Product Personality, Audience Characteristics, and Key Benefits. Branding also includes "Tag Lines" like Nike's "Just Do It" and Coka-Cola's "Coke Is It".
This is a large amount of work that your web design company should NOT be in control of. This work is in the realm of corporate company copywriting, not web design. In effect, the above offer is offering to define your company, your clients and nailing down the way your company operates from outside your company - and it's "included" in the basic $299 starting cost.
EXAMPLE #3:
- SEO & Web Presence - Starting at $399
Search engine optimization is a critical part of web design, having relative content and adjusting your site to easily be read by search engines will get more potential customers to your web site. There are many ways of increasing your web presence, such as press releases and incoming links.
EXPLANATION #3:
This one is a pip. SEO & Web Presence - "Starting at $399" without saying what you're getting - and listing a definition of Search Engine Optimization. Since it's a starting cost, and there are multiple things listed, you can bet that "relative content" is about all you're going to get. The example specifically sites "adjusting your site to easily be read by search engines". If the example website designers are building your site from scratch, and optimizing it requires an "adjustment" (starting at $399) then perhaps you don't want your site built by someone who will design it poorly on purpose so they can later make an adjustment (starting at $399) to make it more easily readable by the search engines.
What makes the above claim even more of unbelievable is that it includes "Web Presence". Anything and everything on the internet represents a "Web Presence", optimized or not! This includes text documents, a MySpace or FaceBook page, a listing in someone's online brochure - just about anything. So your EXAMPLE #1, Startup Web Design Package starting at $599 is by definition Web Presence once it's on the internet. So, without any SEO work, you could be paying an additional "starting at $399" for "Web Presence" and the optimization could be "adjusting your site to be easily read by search engines" as the SEO work. But since your basic site is a cookie cutter template (as defined in EXAMPLE #1 / EXPLANATION #1) they may actually be taking bad code from the template and optimizing it - but is that what you really want to pay for, and are those the games you really want to play when you have a site built?
On the surface slick claims and easy add on "extras" like the examples above seems like money saving ideas and ways of building your site up over time on a budget. In reality what you really need is a site built from the start to lead you in the right direction with as many hours of optimization as you can afford. What I promise you is real knowledge, real results and real value for every dollar you spend.
