Twitter is a great SEO tool for networking. I wanted to know what good etiquette on Twitter is (particularly as it applied to spam) so I looked it up in Google. One site I came upon www.stoptwitterspam.com/blog has a link to “The 8 Rules of Twitter Club“. Halfway down that page it states:
“Twitter can be great for networking with people in your field and help to build your career. I can also help you develop web projects you want to share with the world. Make use of it, don’t just say “Yeah, I’m Web 2.0 hip and understand social media, I’m on Twitter” but actually not participate.”
…So as SEO’s using Twitter, this is a way to participate saying “Yes, we understand SEO and that developing backlinks and link partnerships is so important” which prompted me to start a few groups so SEO’s on Twitter (initially) can get on, post the URL’s to the sites they need links for and are willing to give links from, and work out ways amongst themselves to help each other grow each other’s careers.
The two groups are:
Link Ligtning
SEO Links
Anyone who is an SEO can join either group. Those are the only requirements right now, and seeing as how Twitter is where I got the idea it only makes sense that it be started with Twitter members.
The actual Twitter guidelines regarding “Twitter spam” itself say this: “So, our challenge is to curb this type of behavior without interfering with non-spammy users—some of whom may just be very enthusiastic followers.”
Translation: You can @reply to people you are genuinely and enthusiastically following as long as you don’t go bonkers doing it, and probably won’t have anything to worry about.
Well, as far as SEO goes – that’s Twitter in a nutshell. It’s a great place to find plenty of other SEOs, learn from each other, network together, build relationships, create and join groups and make invitations, and help each others careers grow. Works for me.
So how DO you find out who is an SEO on Twitter? (Thought you would never ask) This part is the best part of Twellow.com. You use their sort function to drill down, or search all people in Twitter with the SEO profile… or just click this link to make it fast: http://www.twellow.com/search.php?q=SEO. As you can see there are over 1,500 people found for SEO. With that many people, the chances of finding a few hundred like minded people in the same profession whom you can follow and who will follow you seems pretty likely.
